I would just like to send out a big congratulations to all of our Valley Royals athletes who competed at this past weekend’s BC Club Championships, in Coquitlam. For the distance group, this was the last competition for many of our athletes, and others are still eagerly awaiting the selection lists to team BC looking to our Canadian Championships.
Miles Graham ran an outstanding race in his first 3000m steeplechase to win the U20 division, and his time of 9:18.90 was more than 10 seconds under standard, making him a prime choice for team BC. Laken Olson ran an outstanding steeplechase to win the U16 boys race and then came back to win the 2000m. Riley Simmonds and Adrianna Buitelaar were also BC Club Champions in their respective events. Maggie Epp ran very strongly over 800m to take the silver medal in the U18 division, and Jayda Tielmann had an outstanding race to capture the bronze medal in the U16 800m. Gurpartap Sandhu took the bronze medal in the U18 women’s heptathlon (with the help of her fantastic Valley Royals coaching team) and recorded a personal best of 4360 points.
I would like to thank all of our families for the hard work dedication and support that they have given to our program, all of which has resulted in the amazing successes that we have had this past year; hopefully, a few more are still to come at the Canadian Championships.
